Cool Stuff – House Lifting

Sometimes at Red Apple Renovations we get to do very cool things. Yesterday was one of those times.

We have a project we’re working on that involves remodeling an existing house on the beach. The plan for the project was to lift the house about 7 feet so there would be better views as well as more space on the first floor. We worked with a professional house lifting and moving company to make this happen.

We’ll be posting video as well as a more detailed description in the coming weeks, but the short version is that after two large steel beams were inserted under the second floor, four hydraulic jacks were used to lift the house in one foot increments. After the house was lifted one foot, additional temporary support was installed to support the great height, the jacks were reset, and we lifted in another 12 inches.

The picture below shows the result. we have a house that’s up in the air waiting for the work on the first floor. Once that’s done, we’ll lower the house and keep things rolling.
